1. AI-Generated Content Disclosure

All stories, chapters, titles, and narrative content produced on Unwritten are generated by artificial intelligence — specifically, Anthropic's Claude language model. No story on this platform is written by a human author.

Stories are created in real time based on the genre, themes, character details, and decisions you provide. Each story is unique to your session and shaped entirely by your input.

2. Mature & Sensitive Content

Unwritten offers genres that may include mature, dark, or emotionally intense themes, including but not limited to:

• Dark Romance — adult romantic situations, emotional intensity, power dynamics
• True Crime — murder, investigation, trauma, violence
• Horror — frightening, disturbing, or graphic situations
• Thriller — danger, psychological tension, criminal activity

Unwritten is intended for users 18 years of age or older. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.

While you may use the content triggers and avoidance settings provided during story setup to limit certain themes, we cannot guarantee that AI-generated content will never include unexpected or uncomfortable material. Reader discretion is advised.

3. True Crime & Fictional Characters Notice

True Crime stories generated on Unwritten are works of fiction inspired by genre conventions — they are not accounts of real crimes, real victims, or real investigations. They should not be interpreted, shared, or presented as factual.

If you choose to use the names of real people as character names in your story setup, the resulting story is still entirely fictional. Unwritten takes no responsibility for content generated using real names entered voluntarily by the user.

4. No Human Editorial Review

Stories are generated and delivered to you in real time. No human reviews, edits, or approves any story content before it is presented to you. The content you receive is produced entirely by an automated AI system responding to your inputs.

Unwritten operates content safety filters through Anthropic's API, but these are automated systems. We cannot guarantee that every piece of generated content will meet every reader's expectations for appropriateness, quality, or tone.

5. Accuracy & Factual Disclaimer

AI language models can produce content that is inaccurate, inconsistent, or factually incorrect. Stories generated on Unwritten may contain:

• Invented facts, places, or historical details presented as real
• Inconsistencies between chapters (despite our continuity systems)
• Medical, legal, or scientific information that is incorrect or misleading

Nothing in any Unwritten story should be taken as factual, professional, medical, legal, or any other form of expert advice. All content is for entertainment purposes only.

6. Story Ownership & Intellectual Property

The stories you generate on Unwritten are produced by AI in response to your personal inputs. You are free to read, download, and share your stories for personal, non-commercial use.

Because the content is AI-generated, copyright ownership of AI-produced text is an evolving area of law that varies by jurisdiction. Unwritten makes no warranties regarding the intellectual property status of generated content.

The Unwritten platform, brand, interface, and underlying systems remain the property of Unwritten's operators. You may not reproduce or resell the platform itself.

7. Public Library & Content License

Unwritten operates a Public Library — a curated collection of completed stories that users may voluntarily contribute to and that other readers may browse and read for free.

When you choose to add a completed story to the Public Library, you grant Unwritten a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, host, and make that story available to other users of the platform for as long as the story remains in the Public Library or until the service ceases operation.

This license does not transfer ownership of your story to Unwritten. You retain all rights to your content and may remove it from the Public Library at any time through your library settings.

Unwritten reserves the right to remove any Public Library story at its discretion — for example, if it is flagged as containing harmful content or violates these terms.

8. Credits & Payments

Unwritten uses a credit system to access story generation. Credits are purchased through our payment processor (Stripe) and applied to your account upon successful payment confirmation.

• Non-refundable: All credit purchases are final. Credits are non-refundable once issued to your account, except where required by applicable law.
• No expiry: Credits do not expire and remain on your account indefinitely, subject to the service discontinuation terms below.
• No cash value: Credits have no monetary value outside of the Unwritten platform and cannot be transferred, sold, or redeemed for cash.
• Gift credits: Credits purchased as gifts for another user are non-refundable once claimed. Unclaimed gift credits may be refunded within 30 days of purchase — contact us at the address below.

In the event that Unwritten ceases operation, we will make reasonable efforts to provide a 30-day notice period during which you may use any remaining credits before the service shuts down. We are not able to provide cash refunds for unused credits at closure, but we will endeavour to give you sufficient notice to use what you have.

9. Service Discontinuation

We intend to operate Unwritten for the long term. However, if we ever need to shut down or significantly alter the service, we commit to the following:

• 30-day notice: We will provide at least 30 days' advance notice via the email address associated with your account and via a notice on the platform.
• Data export: During the notice period, you will be able to download all of your stories in PDF format from your library. We will ensure this export function remains available for the full notice period.
• Credit usage window: Any remaining credits on your account will remain usable for the full 30-day notice period.

Your stories are yours. If we ever close, we want to make sure you leave with every word you generated.

10. Privacy & Data

Unwritten collects and stores the following information to operate the service:

• Account information — your email address, used for login and service communications
• Story data — the stories you create, including your inputs (genre, character names, story ideas) and the AI-generated chapters, stored so you can return to your library

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Your story data is stored securely via Supabase and is not shared with anyone except as required to operate the service (e.g., passing your story context to Anthropic's API to generate the next chapter).

By using Unwritten, you consent to this data being stored and processed as described. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at the address below.

11. Limitation of Liability

Unwritten is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or that generated stories will meet your expectations.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Unwritten and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform or its generated content — including but not limited to emotional distress from story content, data loss, or service interruptions.

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.
